Description
2 Rembrandt coin, minted in 2006, celebrates the 400th anniversary of the renowned Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn. The obverse showcases the iconic Koornbrug alongside Rembrandt's distinguished self-portrait, surrounded by the lettering "REMBRANDT VAN RIJN 1606-2006 400 JAAR". The reverse offers a picturesque view of the city of Leiden, stamped with the value and the distinctive Sails privy mark, captioned "LEIDEN 2 REMBRANDT". This coin holds historical significance, having been legal tender in Leiden between 15.2.2006 and 31.10.2006, reflecting the city's tribute to one of its most famous inhabitants. It forms part of a commemorative set of five coins and has also been made available in a BU version within the 5 coin set. Only 25000 medals were minted.
