Description
10 Centimos coin, issued by Spain's Provisional Government in 1870 following the 1868 revolution. The obverse has a seated Hispania, the national personification of Spain, facing right within a beaded circle, with the weight indication "DIEZ GRAMOS" (ten grams) and the engraver's mark "L·MARCHIONNI". The reverse features a lion beside a shield, underlining Spain's heraldic symbols, with the inscription "CIEN PIEZAS EN KILOG· OM DIEZ CENTIMOS", indicating that 100 of these 10-gram coins collectively weigh 1 kilogram. The mintmark "OM" denotes Oeschger Mesdach, the coiner. Notably, this is one of the few modern Spanish coins that does not explicitly reference the country's name.
